Pick Up A

It’s not too parky, standing here

In penguin suit and spats:

I’ll do my best to look sincere,

And hope for placky sprats.

I cannot waddle, cannot honk

(It sticks inside my gizzard),

I’ll sit and smile, a sixties gonk

Pretending it’s a blizzard.

I think the public will be fooled

By each engaging feather:

I’m sure I won’t be ridiculed.

We’re all in this together.

And though I’m polypropylene

Or polyvinyl chloride,

I’ll look as if I puff and preen,

And hope to trick the four-eyed.

All penguins are a Tory blue,

All blubber and bombastic –

And they have nasty peckers too,

And all of them are plastic.
